Unwatchable Poem by Mary Champion

Unwatchable

The owl-like moon must close its eyes.
For how long has it strained the ties
that bind it to our sad blue Earth?
Its very presence helped give birth
to this - the rich abundant life
that swarms across the surface-
all fighting for a living space.
Constant battles for survival
as pretender vies with rival.
How many bloody rivers flow
on this planet down below
its nightly vigil? How much pain
has it observed throughout its reign?
Unbending laws of physics say
it cannot turn its face away.
As conflicts rage and oceans rise
the owl-like moon must close its eyes.
