Upon Recieving A Letter From Whom I Thought Was My Dad Poem by Eli MorenoDrew

Upon Recieving A Letter From Whom I Thought Was My Dad

She remained stable,
didn't flinch.
In turn was the glue
stronger than that on the letter.

And when I put my head
in a tub of ice water
she took my head out
not because I was cold
but because I couldn't breathe.
And she didn't give me a blanket
or a hug,
but instead put her hand on my knee and said
'You did fine.'

So we spent the night in my truck
where I spoke to her the very words I write here,
and we invented the word Content.

It was the first time I felt
the small of her back
and smiled because it was there and constant.
When I stopped shivering
we both found it easier to fall asleep.
So we did,
with two blankets
and each others arms and words for pillows.
