Vesuvius Poem by Zoe Richardson

Vesuvius

A pause to kiss
Sugar on the tongue
Melting into a flowing
Rush of sweet desire

Fiery blood reaching
Secret pinpoints
A cure and a curse
Of light and heat
In a white hot
Glacier of need

Touch me to melt
Need me to freeze
Want me to taste
Slay me to rise
Take me to slake

A dizzy longing
An infernal touch
Heaven waiting to burn
Tomorrow flies as you
Fingertips ignite volcanic
Whispers in the relentless
Lava of my blood

Come to me in darkness
And we will race our
Chariots across the
Wild blooming sky
Falling back to earth
As our sparks bring
Down the dawn
