In the morning
We didn't walk toward that city's river
We emerged in afternoon
From the darkness of the alleys
And wandered silently
Through its narrow streets
for hours.
The river surprised us
Flowing toward a bank we couldn't see
I said, Come
This water flows just for us
Come before the sun sets.
There's no bridge over the river for us to cross, you replied.
We stood in silence.
The day passed like a stranger before us,
We entered the room of night
We lay down
Waiting for the lake's mist
To cover our dreams.
