I stumbled blind into
A dead-end black-brick alley
With old wood crumble houses
Falling in on each side
To inundate and crush me
I came in confident and headstrong
Without hesitation
Like a brisk colt just having found
Control of his spindle limbs
When I ran into your
Blindsiding wall defenses
My conviction crumbled
Like breaking bits of frame
From dusty tenement walls
Your sneer stopped me cold
Heading off my advances
Telling me of all you won’t let through
From anyone who wants to touch you
Your wall of broken sadness
Bars forward childlike ones like me
Who don’t know any better
When they are seeking just a friend
Or looking for a sweetheart
But I did not think I’d find
A wall so unyielding
As I was running blindly
Now my head is aching
With confusion and sorrow
From not foreseeing
The inevitability of the collision
