War Is War Poem by Mohammad Yousef

War Is War

By Mohammad A.Yousef

War is war,
a loud echo in the night,
shattering silence,
turning whispers into screams.
The sky bleeds gray,
as men march in shadows,
each footstep,
a heavy heart's beat,
drumming in the dust.

Courage wrapped in fear,
and fear wrapped in courage,
they hold hands,
like old friends on a schoolyard,
but here,
the game is playing for keeps,
where hope stumbles in the chaos,
and dreams are put to sleep.

Young faces,
lives barely begun,
drawn into battles
that answer none of their questions,
chasing peace like a mirage,
while the ground shakes
under the weight of fallen dreams.
They fight for flags,
to sing a proud tune,
not knowing the cost
of each note they hum.

War is war,
where the sun hides its face,
where families stay awake,
waiting for a knock,
the kind that brings fear,
rather than daylight.
Mothers, holding tight to hope,
fear becoming their daily bread,
not knowing if tomorrow
will still belong to them.

And deep below the surface,
beneath the soil stained red,
the earth remembers,
whispers stories of what was lost,
of laughter turned into sorrow,
of friendship turned to foe.
Each blade of grass holds a secret,
each flower, a prayer,
for the love left unspoken,
for the peace longed for
in the heart of every soldier.

Yet, still, there's beauty,
in the camaraderie forged,
in the moments shared,
the laughter amid danger.
"I'll watch your back if you watch mine, "
becomes a bond stronger than steel,
for in every corner of darkness,
there is a flicker of light,
a testament to the strength
that rises from the ashes.

War is war,
but peace,
peace is worth the fight.
A dream we hold dear,
a treasure,
in a world weary of pain.
We must find our way back,
to understand the price of a true embrace,
to lift our voices high,
for love, not for hatred —
to turn the tide,
an endless battle that begins anew,
holding each other,
against the roar of the storm.
