Washington Park (The Old School) Poem by Justin Gildow

Washington Park (The Old School)

Returning back
After 26 years
Back to the school that I remember

Washington Park has changed a lot
since I left
Renovated here and there

Memories of past teachers and former
classmates flood my mind
For this time being

I peek through the glass
Seeing the new classrooms
Yet the old staircase I used to walk
down every morning is still there

Outside the school
I spy the sidewalk
Where my classmates and I saw the school
parade
Back in late September of 1987

26 years is a long time
However it was a long wait worth it
In the end
