Waves Poem by Henrique Ankerkrone Caldas

Waves

Mercurial moon. Its gifts of joy-wrapped tidal waves
Run the course of shifting lives. No, they are sorrow waves.

On one night, bonfire lanterns, guides to giddier times,
Are stars of burden, ebbing in shades of idle waves.

On another, royal skies grow sapphire delicate,
Healed by flowing, soothing memories of yarrow waves.

Yet, with one sip, love has waned. Lust abounds betrayal.
Who knew Sirens sang Lethe louder than bridal waves?

Just with another, the world falls into a whirlpool
Of waxing, thrashing guilt. Will there be Tomorrow waves?

One change. The ebb and wax of memory craves being
Reversed, forsaken, or drowned by homicidal waves.
