Well Drilled Poem by Mary Champion

Well Drilled

I've hidden all my dreams behind a sham,
Untrue to what I want and who I am,
Cos I don't wanna rock the boat we're in;
Demanding my own way.
But now I have to pay
For every time my actions were untrue.
My lies of omission just wore through.

There's a hole in the bottom of my life
And I can see it leaking away.
There's nothing I can do to stem the flow,
I just have to stand and watch it go.

I've been too scared to show them how I felt,
When I looked at the hand that I'd been dealt,
Remembering the lousy hands they held,
What right had I to cry?
We all have to get by.
But every time deception took its toll
And weakened the fabric of my soul.

There's a hole in the bottom of my life
And I can see it leaking away.
There's nothing I can do to stem the flow,
I just have to stand and watch it go.
