West African Verses Poem by Sunday Igwebuike

West African Verses

Hark, hark my soul, Hark, oh my people. We leap but we miss them not! Birth, marriage and the cessation! They are the make up of our beings, For good or bad. How we are born, Plays a key role in our humanity, A vital link to our marriage, Whether blissful or odious! Birth, marriage pulsate death and burial! What is now my role? But to wish them all, A noble birth, Cool loving, A long drawn kiss, As the hen comes to roost!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The poem West African Verses is a sample of Contemporary West African poetry. It is our experience in West Africa that the situation of one's birth affects his or her marriage and what becomes of the person (the achievement.) A badly brought up child, male or female invariably would lead to bad marriage with little or no achievement.
