What If Poem by tonya truitt

What If

What if you never get a second chance?
What if you couldn't be there for the person you loved when they really needed you the most?
What if you couldn't make it perfect the first time?
What if you only had one wish to make it perfect and you messed up?
What if you hoped for something you could never have?
What if you wanted to hear I love you from the person you really loved but every time you opened your eyes they where never there?
What if you where lying on the beach, heart in throat, amazed by the 80 billion grains of sand beneath your toes and 700 thousand waves before you?
What if you where reaching for the door that you desperately wanted to open but were afraid it would be locked or the hinges creak?
What if there is a raging storm outside and you go out and dance and sing in it?
What if you wake up one day and the sky isn't blue, grass isn't green, and the sun rose in the west and set in the east?
What if you could never be angry with the person you loved?
What if you wanted to take in one last breathe and you couldn't?
What if?
What if?
What if?
