What Is Love, Anyway? Poem by Alfred Mukenya

What Is Love, Anyway?

This mutual feelin'
Of car'n
Of attraction
Does it even know who is I?
Who he is?
What is love anyway?

Ask and thou shalt receive
Is he God given?
O my wretched heart
Not this rigid half-breed
That smells of indian blood
And sweats kenyan so bad
But ooops...I love his grey eyes
What is love anyway?

The need of him leaves my heart in pain
How I quiver at his gaze
The way he binds my heart and body
Or so I thought
NO! Not him! Not a half-breed
That'll leave my heart more empty
Than emptiness could ever be
What is love anyway?

O this beast called love
How I wish to tear it away from me
Lest t untames my fullgrown dignity
How uncaring love is
No wonder poets talk about't alot
Cant blame I heart
When my hands touch his coppery skin
For now I know
Just what love is.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I think a lot how love relates with rich girls, so I felt it enough to pass it to a deserving audience. I wrote it just at my favorite spot, a railway-crossing near my home.
