What makes a child hate life so
That he’ll throw it all away
That makes the pain so intense
That loss of life seems gain
Are we so empty that we cannot see
The desperation of a soul in need
When his actions say, “Look at me”
We punish instead of love
When what he really needs
Is a genuine loving hug
How many more children have to die
Go down with a broken heart
Before we give them the strokes, they need
Stop tearing their world apart
How many children hear “You are precious”
“You really make my day”
“You have great potential”
“You please me in every way”
If these were the kind of strokes, we gave
How many desperate souls would be saved
Our children need to know how wonderful they are
That in the darkness of life to us they are shinning stars
