When I Loved You, Like I Loved You Poem by Saliha AHU

When I Loved You, Like I Loved You

My love for you, I built from scratch
By trial and error I added and removed,
I worried and wearied, stayed up and racked my intuition,
To build this love I have for you.

I went through indifference, passion and resentment,
Needing support and giving support through the hills of life.
Through loneliness and coddlement,
Searching for freedom and a dock to resort
To build this love I have for you.

You I selected and felt selected,
Not imagining any better for myself or any one else for you.
I watched you grow as a person, as a father, as a son.
Was often and often again amazed at your capacities,
You willingness to grow, to change
To love you like I love you.

When I loved you like I loved you,
I grew my horizons,
I knew what it meant to love
To feel connected and rejected
Through love
When I loved you like I loved you.
