Don't judge me when I say no,
There are things you'll never know.
It's not dislike that guides my way,
Nor to disappoint you today.
Perhaps I'm walking through a storm,
Trying hard to keep life warm.
Perhaps my silence hides the pain,
So neither of us bears the strain.
Not every truth is mine to share,
Not every wound needs open air.
Some battles live too deep inside,
Where only time can be my guide.
If I say yes against my heart,
We'll both be broken, torn apart.
So though my answer brings you pain,
It's meant to shelter, not to blame.
Please don't mistake my quiet grace
For indifference on my face.
A gentle no may hurt today...
Yet save us both another day.
I owe no story to defend,
No lengthy reason to explain.
Some answers bloom before their time...
Some truths are patient by design.
So if today I answer no,
Please trust there's more than I can show.
One day you'll see what I could not tell...
Until that day...
Let time explain...
My no far better...
Than I ever will.
