'சின்னஞ்சிறு கிளியே கண்ணம்மா' என்ற பாடலின் ஒரு பகுதியை எடுத்தாண்டு கவியரசர் கண்ணதாசன் எழுதிய 'உன் கண்ணில் நீர் வழிந்தால்' என்ற திறப்பாடலினை மொழிபெயர்க்கு நான் செய்தேன் இவ்வாறு:

My heart bleeds in abundance
That You are the pupil of my eyes
Kannammaa, there my life ends!

After holding your hands,
My life shined and glittered
In marrying you, the gold
My esteem went up, I found

When tears flow out of your eyes
My heart bleeds in abundance!

Like a load bearing stone of Times,
You hold me on your breasts
And wipe out my tears and solace
In that would vanish all my sobs

What worth is there of a thousand relations
like polyps or aerial roots of a banyan tree
It's You who remained as a root for me
That I stood strong and firm unrooted, always!

When tears flow out of your eyes
My heart bleeds in abundance!

Laying me in a bed of thorns,
Denying me to close even my eyelids
Descended ones made me go insane
And they might remain for name sake
Or there could be relations to talk
Who else could realize what I need
Only a Goddess like you would know indeed!

கால சுமைதாங்கி போலே
