Where My Soul Once Stood Poem by Josie Darby

Where My Soul Once Stood

I miss the sky, wide, endless, a blue that stretches beyond thought.
The ocean, restless, pulling at my soul, for it knows my
secrets.
I miss my own heart, when it's open to the beat of an
african drum,
when I am awake, and the world hums with spirit
and sound.

I long for the wind and the rain that is the
breath of life.
To feel the salt air clinging to my skin. To resonate with mountains like sleeping elephants, heavy with dreams.

I miss the heartbeat of this place, the rhythm digging deep, reminding me of who I am.
And I miss my friendships, their laughter, their eyes that see and share, without needing words.
Soul and heart, pieces of me still there,
waiting always.
