While you were sleeping, another man came creeping
While you were sleeping, your lady went out sneaking
Your carefree heart received its pay
Dreams of the good life slipped away
Now it's time to wake up and face the day
While you were sleeping, While you were sleeping

While you were dreaming, your feet turned into clay
While you were sleeping, someone stole that girl away
It's too late now to change her mind
Your foolin'around has been repaid in kind
And she went creeping, while you were sleeping

While you were sleeping, you lost the best part of your heart
While you were sleeping, she quickly slipped away in the dark
And now you're weeping,cause you were sleeping
While you were sleeping, While you were sleeping
Since she went creeping, While you were sleeping
