Who Is She? Poem by Ann Cassie

There was a girl that knew the world.
What she wanted and what she learned
Changed her perception of what can be
To what is likely, and bounded her with ties of reality.

Her strength was shaken and courage depleted
She was in a sea of dark clouds;
Humiliated.
Her dreams turned to nightmares,
She was lost and beaten to despair.

She needs to emerge,
break through the wreckage and diverge.
From a girl who lost her way;
Who found darkness and was lead astray,
To the girl who built herself;
Who fought her demons and reclaimed oneself.

Although the dawn is breaking,
Night will come and she will be ready.
