Wholly Unexpected Poem by William B. Deutscher

Wholly Unexpected

Wholly unexpected
hiccup of fate,
caught off guard
much too late.
Twisting fortune,
random chance,
day-by-day
happenstance.
Bad luck now
to replace the good,
why me? Why you?
Never understood.
Steel girder falling,
unfair caprice:
One day soon -
just to cease!
