Why? Poem by Allistair Solomon

Why?

I've always known the answer
it's just so hard to face
I keep my secrets hidden
to avoid my true disgrace

I see myself too clearly
the mongrel beneath the mask
Fated to be hated
Lonesome must I bask

I have nothing good to offer
I have nothing great to show
My faith has been bidden
too hide down far below

I have to watch it closely
to ensure it doesn't rise
Is it that I'm destined
to be eternally in disguise?
