Why Doesn't She Leave Poem by Clara Brickley

Why Doesn't She Leave

Why doesn't she leave?
The question has been asked for a millennia.
The answer can never be answered from outside.
Why doesn't she leave?
She loves too much; she fears too much.
The memory and the trauma hold her prisoner
She hopes too much; she fears the unknown too much.
She thinks she deserves no better than this.
Why doesn't she leave?
It's only words; he didn't hit me hard.
She knows it will get worse when she leaves.
Why doesn't she leave?

You don't realize what the question means
You don't realize why the question can't be answered
Why doesn't she leave?
Probably she already believes she is to blame.
Why doesn't she leave?
You don't realize it, but you just agreed with her.

Why doesn't she leave?
It's not something you can vocalize.
It's not something you can ever explain.
Why doesn't she leave?
I hope you never understand why.
Why doesn't she leave?
I know, but all my answers fall short.
How could I possibly understand?
How could I know the impossible answer?
Because I haven't left either….
