Why I create, even when I am losing,
It's my place of province, my sanctuary.
Built of pure light, praise and worship,
My lighthouse to direct me when I'm lost.
The ultimate hiding place, antidote for dysfunction,
Both in my family and religion, my Hightower.
An escape route from confusion,
A soothing lullaby that rejuvenates my brain cells.
I create, oh how I create,
It's how I cope with life's trauma.
For the bullies of my past,
The terrorists of my present and probably tomorrows.
I create for belongingness,
For my culture, for my roots.
To rewrite black American history,
And reclaim our power, our truth.
In my hands, I hold the power,
To shape and mold my reality.
With colors, words, and melodies,
I create my own destiny.
I paint my pain and sorrow,
With each brushstroke, I heal.
I write my fears and doubts,
With each word, I conquer.
Through my art, I find my voice,
A voice that was once silenced.
I speak for the unheard,
I give a platform to the marginalized.
In my creations, I find solace,
A refuge from the chaos of the world.
I build my own little paradise,
Where love and acceptance unfurl.
I create to express,
All the emotions I cannot contain.
To release them into the universe,
And let them find their own lane.
I dance to the rhythm of my heartbeat,
And let the music soothe my soul.
I sing with all my might,
And let my voice reach the heavens above.
Creativity is my superpower,
It's what sets me apart.
In a world that tries to mold me,
I create my own unique art.
Through my creations, I leave a mark,
A legacy that will live on.
For generations to come,
My creations will speak long after I'm gone.
So why do I create, you ask?
It's simple, really, it's who I am.
A creator, a dreamer, an artist,
It's my purpose, my passion, my jam.
Why I create, even when I am losing,
It's my place of province, my sanctuary.
Built of pure light, praise and worship,
My lighthouse to direct me when I'm lost.
