Will Of Deceived Poem by Luke Bushen

Will Of Deceived

In a far away land sat a small snowy town,
It sat deep in a valley with mountains around.
From the distance you might think this town looked quite quaint,
Indeed, the picture would be a great one to paint.
But see, the name of this town was Deceived,
For their minds were shut tight and they did not believe
That anything existed beyond those hills
Or that life held a purpose destined to fulfill.
They lived for themselves, they praised their own might,
They believed they knew best, that they did things just right.
Choked by their ignorance, they never lived free,
Merely shadows of men they grew old to be.

But, lived in that town, a young lad named Will,
The bright lad imagined beyond those hills.
He thought, 'There must be more than just this small town.
There must be something past those cliffs to be found.
There's got to be places with more than just snow.
There's got to be meaning, and I've got to know! '

So he left his small town with his heart full of hope
And started up the back of the mountain's slope.
The journey proved difficult for our young Will,
For scaling such mountains required some skill.
He often was tempted to turn back and give in,
But the dream in his heart was not quite that thin.
The days stretched to weeks, to months, then to years,
Now a grown man, he still persevered.
With great ambition he continued to fight
Through many a hardship, toil, and plight.
Until, at last, his feet came to a rest
Atop the great mountain's glistening crest.
He gazed upon the land that now stretched below,
The green of growth replaced his old town's white snow.
New beauty replaced that which was bland,
What now lay ahead was his futures homeland.

And so, with his spirits soaring to the top
He continued forward, but then suddenly stopped,
For like a dark shadow, a thought crossed his mind
Of the lost men and woman he had left behind
To rot in their hole without a glimpse of hope,
Blind to the future beyond the steep slopes.
The meaning of life they did not understand.
He pondered the situation now at hand.
This new land meant freedom from the deep den,
Who was he to not share it with them?
All should be offered life in this new place,
It's beauty should be shared with the lost race.
Someone must tell them, he made up his mind,
He could not go on and leave them behind.
So he turned, his heart set and his eyes gleaming,
For this mission gave his soul a new sense of meaning.
He vanished behind the edge of the cliff
Without a second thought, without a 'what if? '
And, though in his lifetime he never again
Returned to the land beyond that deep den,
He still completed his life's meaning in full,
For he saved that small town and brought light to their hole.
In their lost blindness he came to the rescue
As he told them the story that I just told you.
