Will There Ever Be A Morning Poem by Thomas Noel Smith

Will There Ever Be A Morning

Will there ever be a morning
That warms the soul with life?
If I waited for its coming
Could I see it with my eyes?

Or perhaps my ears would hear
Its joyous approaching song
Heralded by a trumpet’s blast.
Oh let my heart be strong!

Or maybe the music of the earth
Like a peaceful pastoral tune
Would tell me that at last my wait
Was ended…it could not come too soon!

Where no deep and lengthening shadows
Tell of the approach of night
Or speak in silent fretful tones
When the heart begins to fright

Where will there be an eternal peace
Where spirits find joy at last
Where the mind is set at ease….
Is it too much to ask?

Will there ever be a morning
That warms the soul with life?
If I waited for its coming
Could I see it with my eyes?
