They came with their trade,
Gende Olorun reduced to a chattel,
Abiyamo chained as a pass-round maid,
we survived, with a defiant soul forestalling hell.

They came with their governments,
but their tricks with us did not sell,
forced kings and acquired with destructive armaments,
we survived, with a defiant soul forestalling hell.

Now they come with their ideas,
the sole foundation on which reason dwells,
it is oppression! , they ring to our ears,
how shall we survive and forestall the coming hell.

Moremi, Olokun, Orisha Oko we seek for rescue,
our truth and power of women.
