Wonton Poem by Tony Crook

Wonton

I should not have gone shopping
When my hunger was knocking
For it led me astray
In a very bad way

They looked so innocent in the packet
My tummy made a racket
For the Chinese snack selection
Not a wise choice, upon reflection

Home they went with me
A hot oven made them crispy
I ate them wantonly
I just couldn't stop at one wonton, you see

Parcels of pastry fun
Just for my tum
I willingly succumb
I was so dumb

You see I ate them all
So delicate and small
I couldn't resist
Chinese food with a twist

Sweet chilli sauce
A dip to endorse
To enhance the sensation
Only caused consternation

Oh but my eyes spied a snack!
I'll never look back
For they top my poll
Those duck spring rolls

My tum started to gurgle
This feast was a hurdle
Too much for my sight
This gastronomic delight

They were all too nice
Flavours of oriental spice
But I ate them too quick
I felt slightly sick

My lesson learned
For my tummy did churn
My body is a temple
Next time I'll be sensible
