Worlds Apart Poem by Hlengiwe Gumede

Worlds Apart

An open letter to my father whom I share a house with but we live in 2 different worlds.

Dear Biological Dad

I don't think think you understand how damaging it is for you to just abandon me like that....

I can't be a daddy's girl like other girls, I can't confidently tell people that you're my father, I can't even post your pic on Facebook with the caption 'my main bae'.

Let alone my relationships they don't last, when things get rough I leave immediately because I fear being left and hurt by the guy.

Seeing what you're doing to me and mom, I'm sorry but all I pray for is to marry a guy that is totally different from you, a guy that will be man enough to still play his part to my kids even if he leaves me.
I still love you though, you were my seed planter.

Yours Sincerely
Lost Daughter
