Yellow Country Garden Poem by David Pass

Yellow Country Garden

How many kinds of sweet flowers grow
In an English country garden?
I'll tell you now of some that I know
And those I miss you'll surely pardon
Daffodils, heart's ease and phlox
Meadowsweet and lady smocks
Gentian, lupins and tall hollyhocks
Roses, foxgloves, snowdrops, forget-me-nots
In an English country garden

How many insects come here and go
Through our English country garden?
I'll tell you now of some that I know
And those I miss you'll surely pardon
Fireflies, moths, gnats and bees
Spiders climbing in the trees
Butterflies that sway on the cool gentle breeze
There are snakes, ants that sting and creeping things
In an English country garden

**************************
How many kinds of yellow flowers grow
-in an English country garden?
I'll tell you now of some that I know
And those I miss you'll surely pardon
Daffodils, cowslips and rose
Marigold where the water flows
Sunflower, mammoth crocus and chrysanthemum
Dahlia, broom, berberis and alyssum
In an English country garden

How many kinds of yellow weeds grow
-outside an English garden gate.
They grow fast and never see a hoe
The seeds soon spread and then they germinate.
Birds foot trefoil and hawkbit
Celandine, coltsfoot in the grit
Groundsel, dandelion, sow thistle and gorse
Ragwort, dead nettle and buttercup of course.
By a rundown English real estate.

How many kinds of yellow crops grow
-in a farm by the forest of Arden
Some fields in use but some lie fallow
Tudor crops that Mary fed the bard on
Maize gives sweet corn on the cob
Just boil 10 mins on the hob
Oil and spices too from mustard seed
Rapeseed has greens for pig and cattle feed
Avoid colza oil, keep your guard on.
