I remember
When I was defeated
You gave me a hero’s welcome
My darling, you were a puzzle then.
With my drooping eyes
My face waxing red
I scanned the contours of your face
To read the flitting shades of emotions
Trailing in your mind.
You broke the heavy silence
You said, 'I saw your strength.'
I winced at the cruel blow
A red wave veiled my vision
Through that red mist
I surveyed your face
A dazzling expanse of blue
I felt like a child again.
Then you said
'My dear! You looked so wonderful
When fighting for a cause
Married we were for decades
But only now I saw this side of yours.'
I held her tight
And whispered in her ear
'You are just beautiful, my dear! ”
