You promised the world, but you never delivered a thing.
You told me about all the pleasure our loving would bring.
You promised a love song - the best ever wrote
But baby I never heard one single note.
You promised a world that would always be fresh as the spring,
But now it's mid-winter and you ain't delivered a thing.

D'you remember the night that we met?
No, I haven't forgotten it yet.
Can't forget how you told me
That you'd always hold me
And make me feel good
Cos it felt good to make me that way.
But I can't afford what you're asking this poor girl/guy to pay.
I tried hard to please you,
But I can't release you
From that cage you've been cowering in.
You promised me heaven, but never delivered a thing.

I was only a girl/guy with a dream
And I thought you were part of the scheme.
Saw your eyes shine with wonder
But never looked under
The darkness that made
Your heart hide from the Sun everyday.
Don't know how much longer I'll go on pretending this way.
I tried hard to show you
The things that I know you
Were dreaming your heart could take in.
I searched for the secret, but never discovered a thing.
