You Were No Different. Poem by Sharon Namwalizi

You Were No Different.

Time revealed what I refused to see,
truths about you
I fought myself to deny.

The way you spoke.
The things you did.

I wanted to believe you were different.
I couldn't…I admit it now,
even when I saw it coming.

You made promises
you knew you couldn't keep.
I knew it too,
but I listened.

When I gathered the courage
to finally speak,
you were indifferent,
arguing for a version of yourself
you knew wasn't real.

You craved attention.
You loved power—
leaving the door just open enough
to never truly close it.

The worst part
was that you thought
you were a good guy.

None of us were—
just selfish,
testing the waters
to see how far we could go.

It's time to let the fake face go.
