Your Lips Are Blue Poem by Brian Rihlmann

Your Lips Are Blue

Don't fall for a liar
and then act surprised
when he lies.

And after many years
of squinting at his
Swiss cheese stories, say
"He's not who I thought he was."

He's exactly
who you knew he was,
all along.

His lies weren't the problem
they were beautiful,
like fairy tales
or Hollywood endings.

You soaked in them
like a warm bubble bath.

But the water's cold now,
and your lips are blue.

Time to get out.
