Youth Poem by Justin Gildow

Youth

You're a girl
You're jumpy
You're paranoid

You're young
That much I can tell
From your demeanor
I can tell you're going through a crises

Youth
And it seems like innocence lost
Or long gone

You can't sleep
Though you try
Stress has torn through you
Making you wanting and ready to cry

The days are hard
The nights aren't any easier

You're scared
Because somewhere
Someone has their eye on you

They laid a trap for you
And you fell into it
You were caught

Youth
Oh, youth

I'm older
And I'm an innocent bystander
At least that's how I portray myself
Or like to portray myself

It may not show
I might not show it
But I wish you well in getting out of
the predicament you're in

If you feel the need
Cry on my shoulder, if you'd like
The world is demanding
Life is hard
Adolescence is something else
Oh, how I know it is

Youth
Oh, youth
Know I'll be thinking of you
And praying for you
Today
Tonight
