Rachel N W Poems

They say it's just reflection,
but mine has a different action.
It cries when I laugh; it doesn't resemble me,
always judging as I gaze in, silently.

"Hold your breath, steady yourself, " he said.
"I don't know how, " I stammered, panic breaking my voice.
"You don't have to know, just move."
"But what if I go under? " I whispered, my chest tightening.

The Girl Inside The Mirror

They say it's just reflection,
but mine has a different action.
It cries when I laugh; it doesn't resemble me,
always judging as I gaze in, silently.

It doesn't talk, just stares,
but behind that gaze, a scream despairs.
Hurt of abandonment, broken promises unmet,
a trapped soul, unwilling to forget.

Don't tell me it's just a mirror,
mine reveals each flaw, each terror.
It seems displeased with my character,
implying I'm a skilled but reluctant actor.

Without cut, without action, without edit, without permission,
I play my role with fierce determination.
Yet, when I pause to see my reflection,
I see her eyes beg for a different direction.

The girl inside the mirror knows the uncut, unedited me,
imprisoned, she can't be set free.
We can't let her out, can't let her replace,
for she's incapable of shielding in life's race.

Let her stay there, behind my eyes, let her judge and scream,
do whatever she desires, and fulfill her dream.
But I won't revert to the way she was,
I am the antidote; she's the curse.

I must protect her; she's too innocent, too pure,
that's why I keep her where she belongs, inside the mirror.
