Shakeela Kingzley (born Shakeela Bhyat; March 31,1989) is a South African filmmaker, artist and writer. She graduated from AFDA Cape Town with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Motion Picture Medium before freelancing on numerous television commercials, Hollywood and International films.
Kingzley's poetry is experimental in its form and has very musical structure, somewhat call and response as in Black Spirituals, Tribal Chants and Blues Music Verse, you'll find that she keeps coming back to a lyrical re frame. The content profoundly focus on imagery and binaries which can trigger an array of emotions, nostalgia and leave the reader with a thought or message.
Holding to this moment
Forever intertwined
The perfect fit
My hand in yours
...
When I tell you that I love you I mean it like NO other
It does not come from my mind nor my heart,
...
You held me for a moment
For just a moment it would seem
It seems like forever ago
Although I could never remember
...
I had my head on track
Swore I'd never look back
Left my sea of emotions
Buried in the deepest ocean
...
"Don't act this way or think like that"
If it is bad then it's not the norm
But it doesn't feel wrong in my heart
So I struggle each day to conform
