I Cry
I cry
And the tears stream down my face
Leaving paths of salt
Upon my rosy complexion
These tears today
Are not for myself
But for those we have lost.
I cry
For all those who battled
For all those who fought off
The demons
And the hatred.
I cry
For those who felt
Like they could not carry on
For those
Who were forced to be strong
For far too long
I cry
Knowing that there are people
Who could still be here
If the world had more love,
More acceptance,
More compassion.
I cry
For our society
And how it’s filled with hatred
Those who are different are
Shunned,
Hidden,
Punished
For something out of their control
I cry
For the young kids
Who go to school
Just to be harassed and beaten
For those kids
Who become afraid
Of the world around them
To the point
Where they cannot face life on earth.
I cry
For those still battling
Who use every ounce of strength
To make it through the day
Who try to be normal
And appear stable
To hold themselves together
While inside a war is raging on
I cry
For all of those I’ve lost
Friends,
Relatives,
Peers
Knowing they’re never coming back
Due to the pain
That life handed them.
I cry
Knowing that the pain won’t stop
Knowing that life
Will continue onward
Despite the tragic losses
I cry
But I know
Somewhere deep inside me
That we all can step up and help
We all can reach out
Hold on
And pull someone to safety
With a smile,
With a joke,
With a friendly ear
