Courage

Fear has held me long enough,
As I Look back over my life,
I can see how low self esteem kept me in a place of despair.
The men who degraded me and didn't care.
I allowed it to happen.
Looking in the mirror Broken, Battered and Bruised.
This day I decided no more will I be used.
I am a Jewel from which life was birth.
I can Laugh and the waters will break through the dam.
For it has happened, Now, I know who I am.
Step aside with your sorry comments of what you see.
For this outer shell is not the real me.
I'm a beam of light that was almost smothered out.
I was not a victim just a willing participant in your deeds
Days good or bad I made the choice to stay.
Didn't have the courage to just walk away.
Yes I did I fell for your game,
I thought you were the man
You knew my reactions like the back of your hand.
It's over now! !
I have the powers that be giving me the strength to stand.
Moving on in life for you see
I have the courage just to be me.
