I Have Been Listening Poem by Amitava Sur

I Have Been Listening

Rating: 4.5

Since my birth I have been listening
Man on earth We are the supreme
The civilization is flourishing
And it is running apace.

In my childhood I knew the names -
They were Buddha, Jesus and Muhammed
When I grew I knew the names -
They are Hitlar, Idi and Pol pot.

But since my birth I have been listening
Man on earth We’re the supreme
The civilization is flourishing
And it is running apace ! !

If this is what
As declared to be the flourishing -
Then let me be blind and deaf
From right now for good.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My belief, my grooming & my values have directed me to write these few lines with a heavy heart in the context of day today's continued deterioration of human society all over the globe in general. I mean the gradual fall in morality, dignity, courage, solidarity, brotherhood etc. etc.

Growing up and being taught all the qualities and values of life are groomed from within the family, I believe. In today's world, it seems children are not being taught to follow any God or religion, therefore morality has flown away along with ethics, compassion, love for others and peace. Our world is in an uproar, filled with evil, greed, selfishness and disrespect, it is as if people are blind and deaf to the righteous way in life. A very good message within these lines, Amitava. Excellent poem for our world today. Thank you, RoseAnn

Mirza Ghalib wrote Baske dushwar hay har kam ka asan hona, (Final, every job is not an easy one) Aadmi ko bhi muassar nahin Insan hona. (Even for a man it's difficult to become a man) If a man follows an ethics, he should sincerely follow it, Budha preached peace and non-violence, Jesus preched love and tollerence, Muhammad preached moderation and justice, but what was done by there followers and what they are doing now?

But we can close our ears in addition to being blind often and listen selectively Amitavaji. The notions have been changing ever. Man is still supreme if he makes it out of him.
