I’m but an Autumn Leaf
Lying on the ground with winds I play
And oft stirred by a squirrel’s feet
Once crowning glory now lost and sway
All my greens are now russet, yellow
Rambling, roving in golden meadows
I sing soft songs with puffs of air
In lingering dreams, in deepening shadows
So are the days and life of man
A bright young leaf on a primal bough
Gently maturing it grows mild and mellow
Falls off to the ground waits for its final abode
We are all autumn leaves producing music in raspy sound when crushed under foot or flown about by puffs of wind, waiting to be disintegrated with the soil! Apt comparison!
we are all fated once to fall on the ground. lovely metaphor!
indeed a very touching poem. nature symbols that reflected life...
Loved your comparison of man to autumn leaves. Nature and man always seem comparable in poetry, I think. Very good poem, like it a lot. Thank you for sharing. RoseAnn
