Wombles Fishing Poem by maria goodison

Wombles Fishing

Rating: 5.0

I have decided to write a collection of short true life story's, I have change names but every single event really did happen.

In our town is the police station, directly across the road is the law courts and right next to this is the town hall.
The town hall put a pond in the grounds and filled the pond with large carp, this night the wombles decided they wanted fish and chips.
Off they set two jam jars each with string attached and two children's fishing nets, Did our wombles go to the river, No they made a bee-line for the civic building, which was lit up like a tree covered in Christmas lights.
They took off their shoes and jumped in to the pond, as you can Imagine they soon collected a fair crowd who were stood watching them.
So intent were they on fishing not once did they look up, despite being told there was a bet going on, and advised on how best to catch a fish.
When they had stopped for a breather and they stood up, only the wombles were surprised to see the crowd was in fact all police officers.
When the police heard that they had no money and nothing to eat, they did a whip-round and bought them fish and chips, thepolice even put them in a car homeward.
But No the wombles asked to be taking to my house which is how I can include the story.
The police had such a good laugh watching th wombles splashing around pretending to be fishers in an attempt to catch something, decided that nutters like them were needed.
