You shed your tears for her yet she is doing all right
She is making love to another tonight
Of love the poets write and the singers do sing
But love it is not always a blissful thing

Do not waste your tears on the one who is dead
But weep for the poor and the homeless instead
For the dead one is past every sorrow and care
And of tears shed by you for him or for her they will not be aware
...

Are you one of those who do feel close to tears
When you do think back on the now long gone years
And the games with your young friends in the school yard you did play
You often wonder about them where are they today?
...

Wherever tears are only sorrow abound
And laughter not anywhere near to be found
Few do wish to know you when you are feeling down
A sad one indeed the sad sack of the town
...

The past it has gone why do you waste your tears
On mistakes you have made in the now long gone years
You cannot change what has been time ticks along fast
Make the most of the now leave the past in the past
