Nightly Visions

A Fire burns within the Hearth,
A Glowing warmth in growing dark.
With pen and paper, mind in flight,
I ponder worlds within the night.

I travel far, to hidden shades
Of sheltered light in forest glades.
With leaves of brown and brilliant red
In places feet have yet to tread.

I visit mountains, high and tall
That tower, sovereign, over all.
With blinding snow and gasping air
That speaks a long forgotten prayer.

I traverse endless desert sands
And frozen ice in Northern lands
And deepest oceans, black and blue
That to our eyes are out of view.

I then in darker places creep
Where only darkness waits in sleep.
To caverns, crafted out of fright,
That quencheth every life and light.

And lands of which I dare not write
I find, obscured from maker’s sight.
The places where all good things die
And leave the World to wonder why.

My pen leaves paper, I awake
From visions deep I finally break.
I slowly stand and glance outside
Into the deepening eventide.

I, silent, thank the fading fire
The light that fueled my heart’s desire:
For, with it, and a pen to write
The World I traveled, in a night.
