Abdul Samad Latif Poems

What is there to tell now, what is there left to say?
All that could have been said has been said, silence reigns supreme for now
The secret has been revealed, I need to be punished for being so rude
I need to be punished, that foolish heart of mine, for having loved you
...

The night and the silence conspire to make me suffer
Somehow my heart always rebels, finding peace in the midst of solitude
I rejoice in the abyss of my own existence
In being alone with the Alone

They Call Out Your Name, My Love

What is there to tell now, what is there left to say?
All that could have been said has been said, silence reigns supreme for now
The secret has been revealed, I need to be punished for being so rude
I need to be punished, that foolish heart of mine, for having loved you

They call out your name with wanton abandon, with reckless frivolity
Your name and your face and your smile and your lips, all return to me
Please do not call out your name, aloud.
It hurts somewhere, yes, somewhere in the middle
Do not do so, lest you wish, that I wither away, that I suffer
And sink into the abyss and not return

They ask me, in tones of infinite understanding, where the words flow from?
They inquire whether these words are indeed mine, are indeed genuine.
Dont they know, my poetry flows from you, from the memory of your smile
That these words, all these words, are for you, only for you, my love
Only were you to read them, only were you to read them
