Abid Anwar Poems

I am flying like a piece of paper in gusty wind
Not knowing where I'm destined to go,
Or swirling on the mid-sea like an aimless boat
Unwillingly off-shored by a stormy blow,
...

Day and night he has to spit a lot:

of saliva in the tip of tongue
of saliva in the lips and lung
...

A dog-bite victim is foolish but screwed:
He fears a liquid as innocent as water
Yet a mad dog barks in him and it's rude;
His eyeballs do shine as a burning star.
...

The night is made of the elements of darkness but
The windows for dreams to come are not tightly shut,
The dreams in the guise of scattered but illusive light
Fairly removes the farness between day and night.
...

In five-star hotels, the damsels swirl in the swimming pool,
Herds of buffalo have mud-water to soothe and cool;
There's nothing like these for me beneath the cruel sky,
As trees in bushfire, the climate has chosen me to fry.
...

Though not an Icarus I was,
Some flies in my brain did buzz,
Making me crazy for a flight towards the blue:
...

Pigeon meat is good for health
That's what my mother had always said;
I was too young to understand
And hence, so little an attention I paid.
...

In my early childhood, at a toddler's age
I tried to touch what others called ‘image'
Standing in front of the mirror
Again and again I made the same error.

Travelogue

I am flying like a piece of paper in gusty wind
Not knowing where I'm destined to go,
Or swirling on the mid-sea like an aimless boat
Unwillingly off-shored by a stormy blow,
Yet like the hopeful captain of a sinking ship
I dangle from the mast with compass at hand,
Trying to save myself and those aboard—
Someday or the other we may find a land.
