Love

I've always pondered over-
What, by love, exactly do we mean
Ask a seedling, love is rain shower
Showers of hope, clear and clean.

So, does love mean hope?
Ask a bee, love is nectar sweet
Nectar of sacrifice, strength and cope.

So, does love mean sacrifice?
Ask a hatch-ling, love is first-sight
First-sight of her mother and her joyful cries.

So, does love mean joy?
Ask a sapling, love is to part
To part with leaves, soft and coy.

I'm humbled,
By the greatness of love,
A word both simple and white as dove,
And confusingly complicated as maze.
