That Summer Night

You took me away
On that hot summer night
You took my hand
And you held it tight

You boldly released
My two woven braids
Your eyes assured me
There was no need to be afraid

Gently begging
Your smile invited me
Just for tonight
Break loose and be free

The cool breeze
Slid past my bare arms
The beat of my heart
Sped up as it warned

You told me to ignore it
I would never be blamed
Tomorrow no one would know
I would bear no shame

The stars were the only witness
To the scene that played below
To the restlessness soothed
Deep inside the clove

There were no regrets
Not a tear was shed
For all the nights
That after were led

You have not returned
Now on this winter night
You have not taken my hand
You will not hold it tight

I cannot seem to repair
My two frayed braids
I cannot help but be
Entirely afraid

The cold mirror reveals
A plastered smile on me
Not letting me forget
The night I was free

A sharp wind burns
It stings my bare arms
I cannot shield them
For I disrespected all warns

I cannot ignore this
I hold all the blame
Now all I carry
Is a burden of shame

The stars retell
Of the fire dimmed to a glow
I cannot be soothed
As the story delivers a blow

So many tears have been shed
Damn that summer night
And all the nights that have led
