that souls of the living,
could be captured and bought.

A Rock's Perspective

For millions of years,
I've watched life pass by,
I've seen seas become lakes,
and lakes become dry.

I have watched how oceans,
take claim to parched land,
how giants are conquered,
and turned into sand.

As I endure through the ages,
I leave memories behind,
from the death of great species,
to the dawn of mankind.

Feared and worshipped,
by gods that ruled earth,
was around for his killing,
as well as his birth.

The approach of armies,
from a distant empire I saw,
heard the speech of a general,
before his men won a war.

Was encircled for years,
seen starvation and despair,
saw life lost to fighting,
disease and warfare.

Been scarred from the ocean,
the land and the sky,
a great war was fought,
and settled close by.

Thousands of people,
left my shores all at once,
families were parted,
their lives left to chance.

After many long years,
spent laying by the sea,
surrounded by concrete,
and sand you'll find me.

I will witness the rise,
of more kings and more heirs,
And Some day the waters,
will again take what's theirs.

For I have no owner,
nor live under rule,
Today I'm Gibraltar,
tomorrow I'm...
