Butterflies In The Rain

Where Do Butterflies Go When It Rains?

(All butterflies have gossamer wings.)
A careless touch,
In the wrong place,
Or a dropp of rain,
Destroys their ability to fly.

When it rains, a butterfly I know,
Hides under a dense leaf.
She pulls a thick blanket over herself.

Her heart beats fast in her throat,
Her mouth goes dry and her palms sweat,
Holding the thick sheet over her head.

She crouches low trying to avoid the giant feet.
Hot breath warms her face,
Bouncing off the drape, making watery eyes.

Being on the edge her senses sharpen
And she sees like in an x-ray the red beating heart
Of the giants that pass by.

Shaking, watching, hoping
To find the hand with a delicate touch.

Until she sees a true blue heart,
Flings off her shroud and shouts,

"I was waiting for a hand,
I was hiding from you.
Here I am."
