I walk along the lonely strand
My feet drag slowly in the sand,
The beach and I, may thoughts my own,
My head is full, my mind is stone.

A long time ago I asked my Mum
What sort of future I could expect,
My Mum was a widow of many years,
Her advice I had come to respect.

The Lonely Strand

I walk along the lonely strand
My feet drag slowly in the sand,
The beach and I, may thoughts my own,
My head is full, my mind is stone.
I hear the waves break on the shore,
But I am downcast, tired and sore,
The blackest thoughts are now with me,
Ah! A bright and shining light I see.
Jesus appears and softly says,
'Behold, I am with you always.'
The lonely strand became a haven
When I heard that voice from Heaven.
My step is strong, my heart is light,
My mind is clear, my eye is bright,
My head lifts up in joy and praise,
As I step forward, onward, in a haze.
No longer lonely on the strand,
'Cause He is there by my right hand.
